About Loire

Get to know Loire Valley

Located in central France, the Loire Valley is often called the "Garden of France" for its lush landscapes, flowering gardens, and gentle climate. But it is perhaps best known for its magnificent châteaux, which line the Loire River like jewels in a royal crown.

From Chambord's majestic silhouette to the romantic arches of Chenonceau, every castle tells a tale of Renaissance grandeur and aristocratic elegance.

Beyond its architectural treasures, the Loire Valley is a haven for slow travel and scenic charm. Cycle through vineyard-covered hills, wander the cobbled streets of medieval towns like Amboise and Saumur, or take a boat ride down the river itself. The region is beloved for its harmony between culture, nature, and the art of living well.

A bit of History

The Loire Valley flourished during the Renaissance as a favored residence of French royalty. Kings, queens, and nobles built lavish châteaux as symbols of wealth and power, turning the valley into a cultural epicenter. Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years at Clos Lucé in Amboise, bringing with him sketches, ideas, and inventions that still inspire today.

The region also played important roles in both the Hundred Years' War and the French Revolution, with castles transforming from royal palaces into political strongholds. Today, many of these sites are open to the public, allowing visitors to step directly into the footsteps of monarchs and visionaries.

Culinary knowledge

Loire Valley cuisine mirrors its gentle lifestyle: natural, seasonal, and deeply satisfying. Freshwater fish from the river, such as pike-perch or eel, are often prepared with delicate white sauces. The region is also known for its goat cheeses, like the creamy Crottin de Chavignol, and rustic rillettes.

Its wines are just as celebrated, particularly crisp whites like Sancerre, Vouvray, and Pouilly-Fumé, which pair perfectly with local dishes. Fruit tarts, Tarte Tatin, and Loire-grown apples add a sweet note to any meal. Dining here feels timeless, a balance between the richness of the land and the elegance of tradition.
