About Brittany

Get to know Brittany

A land of rugged coastlines, mythical forests, and deep Celtic roots, Brittany offers a striking blend of wild nature and authentic charm. Discover the pink granite coast, stroll through quaint fishing villages like Cancale, or explore ancient standing stones in Carnac. From Saint-Malo to Quimper, the region radiates a timeless maritime spirit.

Located at the very tip of northwestern France, Brittany is a land like no other. With over 2,700 kilometers of jagged coastline, pristine beaches, wild cliffs, and charming fishing villages, it’s a dream destination for lovers of nature and authenticity.

From the legendary Forest of Brocéliande to the colorful harbors of Concarneau or Camaret-sur-Mer, every landscape in Brittany feels like a scene from a storybook. The region is deeply connected to its Celtic roots – and you’ll hear it in the music, see it in the festivals, and feel it in the spirit of its people. Whether you're hiking along the GR34 coastal trail, sailing in the Gulf of Morbihan, or exploring medieval towns like Dinan or Vannes, Brittany captivates with its raw beauty and deep soul.

A bit of History

Brittany’s history is one of fierce independence and cultural pride. Once an independent kingdom, and later a duchy, Brittany was only officially unified with France in the 16th century. Yet even today, its Breton language, music, and customs remain vibrantly alive.
The region is dotted with ancient
megalithic monuments, like the mysterious standing stones of Carnac, some of which date back over 7,000 years. From fortified cities such as Saint-Malo, once a stronghold of privateers, to the stunning gothic cathedrals of Rennes and Quimper, every corner whispers tales of battles, legends, and seafaring adventures.
Brittany was also a major player during World War II, with coastal bunkers and memorials still bearing witness to its strategic role in the liberation of France.

Culinary knowledge

Brittany's cuisine is as grounded and generous as its people, with the sea playing a central role in daily life. It’s one of France’s best destinations for fresh seafood: oysters from Cancale, mussels from the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, scallops from Saint-Brieuc, and the famed blue lobsters from Roscoff.

But beyond the sea, Brittany is also the land of
crêpes and galettes – the latter made from buckwheat and filled with savory ingredients like cheese, eggs, or ham. These are often enjoyed with a glass of local cider, dry and slightly sparkling, served in a traditional earthenware cup.
And no trip to Brittany would be complete without trying a
kouign-amann – a rich, caramelized pastry made of butter, sugar, and more butter. Simple, rustic, and indulgent, it perfectly embodies the comforting spirit of Breton cuisine.
